Seka – A Card Game

Seka, also known by various names such as Sikka, Sichka, Strekoza, Trinca, Trynka, Drynka, Three Leaves, Two Leaves, and others, is a captivating card game that offers a blend of strategy and luck.

Features:

  • The game accommodates between 2 to 10 players.
  • A full deck of 52 cards is used. For games with up to 4 players, only 20 cards are used (from Tens to Aces).
  • For games with 5 to 10 players, 36 cards are used (from Sixes to Aces).
  • The game includes a Joker, which can be designated as any card, typically a Six of any suit, by mutual agreement among players.

Card Values:

  • Joker and Ace: 11 points each
  • King to Ten: 10 points each
  • Lower cards: valued at their face value

The player with the highest total score wins the game.

Rules of Play:

  1. Determining the Dealer: The dealer is chosen by a draw. Players contribute a pre-agreed amount to the pot.
  2. Dealing Cards: The dealer distributes three cards to each player. Players then decide whether to fold or play.
  3. Scoring Points: Points are scored from cards of the same suit (known as a "hlyust"). For example, a Seven and a Jack of Clubs would yield 17 points.
  4. Scoring Without a Hlyust: If a player doesn't have a hlyust, they score points only from their highest card.
  5. Trikon (Trynka): Holding three cards of the same rank (a trikon or trynka) always scores higher than any hlyust, though not higher than a higher-ranked trikon.
  6. Bidding: Starting with the player to the right of the dealer, bidding begins. Players can fold, call, or raise the bid.
  7. Revealing Cards: Once bidding concludes, the first player decides whether to continue bidding or reveal the cards.
  8. Winning the Pot: The player with the highest total points wins the pot. In case of a tie, players can decide to split the pot or start a new round called "svara."
  9. Svara: A svara round begins with the same pot plus an additional contribution of 1/N (where N is the value of the previous pot). Other players can also join by contributing.
  10. Bluffing: Players can bluff by raising their bid despite having fewer points. If successful, the bluffing player wins the pot without revealing their cards.
  11. Dark Bet (Temnaya): The player to the dealer's left can make an additional bet of any size without looking at their cards. Subsequent players must then double this "dark bet" to continue playing.
