Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Team Starts New Game
“The veil between worlds thins at midnight. We are not the first to walk these halls… but we may be the last to remember why we came.”
The remote research outpost nestled in the frozen tundra of the Northern Expanse — known only to a select few as Expedition 33 — has just reactivated.
After a decade of silence, the team’s long-dormant comms array flickered to life beneath a sky split by auroras that pulsed in colors not found in nature. Dr. Elira Voss, lead xenolinguist and de facto leader, was the first to hear the transmission:
"Signal received. Source: Internal. Origin: Memory Module Gamma. Message begins: 'They are not dreaming. We are not awake.'”
The six surviving members of Expedition 33 — all veterans of prior deep-sky field studies — had been summoned not by mission order, but by a recursive dream. Each had dreamed the same thing: a hallway of shifting mirrors, a door that opened only when all six stood in perfect symmetry, and a voice that spoke in no language, yet meant everything.
Now, they are here. Not by choice. Not by protocol. But because the dream has become a directive.
They have gathered in the central hub, where the walls are lined with personal artifacts, old logs, and a single, untouched terminal labeled “ORACLE-7 – ACTIVE.” The system was never meant to be rebooted. It was designed to self-destruct after 10 years.
And yet… it's running.
As the team boots up the terminal, a new prompt appears — not in any known language, but in a pattern:
“Welcome, Architects. The Game Has Begun. Choose Your Role.”
The options shimmer into being:
The Chronicler – The one who writes the story as it unfolds.
The Seeker – The one who tests the boundaries of reality.
The Guardian – The one who preserves the truth, no matter the cost.
The Weaver – The one who bends perception to shape the world.
The Echo – The one who remembers what no one else can.
The Architect – The one who designed this game… and is still inside it.
A silence. Then, Elira steps forward, her hand hovering over the interface.
She whispers:
"We were never sent to study the anomaly. We were sent to become part of it."
The screen flashes.
“Game Start: [Clair Obscur: Expedition 33] – Phase 1: The Door in the Mirror.”
The door behind them — which was never there before — now stands ajar.
And beyond it… a hallway that stretches infinitely, lined with mirrors… each reflecting not their faces, but different versions of themselves.
The game has begun.
