Power Rangers is reportedly getting a live-action series on Disney+.

According to The Wrap, Percy Jackson and the Olympians showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz are in talks to write, produce, and serve as showrunners for a live-action Power Rangers series for Disney+ and 20th Century Television.

Per The Wrap, Power Rangers owner Hasbro aims to reinvent the franchise for a new generation while retaining its existing fanbase.

The '90s series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was must-see TV for a generation of children who admired its teen superheroes and their combining giant robots.

Hasbro acquired the Power Rangers franchise and other brands from original owner Saban Properties in 2018 for $522 million. At the time, Hasbro described the brand as having "tremendous upside potential."

“We see significant opportunity for Power Rangers across our entire Brand Blueprint, including toys and games, consumer products, digital gaming and entertainment, as well as geographically throughout our global retail footprint,” Brian Goldner, Hasbro’s chairman and chief executive officer, said upon announcing the acquisition.

The acquisition followed the unsuccessful 2017 movie reboot, which gave Power Rangers a darker, grittier overhaul intended to launch a film series. Those plans were abandoned due to poor box office returns, prompting Saban to sell the rights to Hasbro shortly after.

Other notable Hasbro projects include a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series titled The Forgotten Realms, currently in development at Netflix, an animated Magic: The Gathering series also in production at Netflix, and a planned Magic: The Gathering cinematic universe.
