PC gaming is largely synonymous with keyboard and mouse controls, particularly for genres like first-person shooters and strategy games that benefit from precise aiming and control. However, some PC games are surprisingly better suited to controllers. Games emphasizing fast-paced reflexes or melee combat often feel more intuitive with a gamepad. This is especially true for titles originating on consoles before making their way to PC.
While many PC releases strive for robust keyboard and mouse support, certain genres lend themselves to gamepad control. Recent releases like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Infinity Nikki, Marvel Rivals, Path of Exile 2, and Delta Force all offer excellent keyboard and mouse experiences, potentially surpassing controller play. Even Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered, while playable with a keyboard and mouse, might feel slightly better with a gamepad.
Several upcoming PC games show promise for enhanced controller play:
- Freedom Wars Remastered: A PS Vita revival echoing the Monster Hunter formula, likely best experienced with a controller.
- Tales of Graces f Remastered: The Tales series consistently shines with gamepad control, and this remaster is expected to follow suit.
- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Given its predecessor's superior controller experience on PC, Rebirth's similar combat system suggests a similar preference.
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2: A PS5 port to PC usually implies a controller-centric design, though keyboard and mouse might still prove adequate.
A 2024 Soulslike title has also been added to this list. See the quick links below for details.
