Final Fantasy XVI's director, Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P), has politely requested that fans avoid creating or installing "offensive or inappropriate" mods for the PC release.
Final Fantasy XVI PC Launch: September 17th
Yoshi-P's Plea for Responsible Modding
In a recent interview with PC Gamer, Yoshi-P addressed the modding community, urging them to refrain from creating or using mods deemed offensive or inappropriate. While PC Gamer inquired about potentially humorous mods, Yoshi-P prioritized the avoidance of harmful content. He stated, "If we said 'It'd be great if someone made xyz,' it might come across as a request, so I'll avoid mentioning any specifics here! The only thing I will say is that we definitely don't want to say anything offensive or inappropriate, so please don't make or install anything like that."
Yoshi-P's experience with previous Final Fantasy titles likely exposed him to problematic modding practices. While many mods enhance the game experience—from graphical improvements to cosmetic crossovers (like the Half-Life costume mod for FFXV)—NSFW and offensive content also exists. Although Yoshi-P didn't specify the types of mods he's referring to, examples include mods that replace character models with explicit content.
Final Fantasy XVI's PC release boasts improvements like a 240fps frame rate cap and upscaling technologies. Yoshi-P's request aims to maintain a respectful and positive environment for all players.
