VNeID Application: Electronic Identification and Authentication
The VNeID application, developed by the National Population Data Center under Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security, leverages population data for electronic identification and authentication. It serves individuals residing or traveling within Vietnam.
Benefits of VNeID
VNeID serves as a digital substitute for traditional documents, aiding in the verification of citizens' identities in digital settings. It promotes the development of digital citizenship, government, and society. The application streamlines processes such as medical reporting and domestic travel declarations. Furthermore, it assists authorities in tracking secondary COVID-19 infections and promptly notifying the public.
Access Permissions
By using VNeID, users grant the application access to the following functionalities:
- Internet Access: To facilitate connectivity from the user's device.
- Camera Access: To scan QR codes on Citizen ID (CCCD) cards, expediting the entry of basic citizen information and enabling quick scans at checkpoints for travel and medical declarations.
- Media Access: To store QR code images on the device for verification at citizen checkpoints.
- Notification Permissions: To send alerts directly to the user's device.
Personal Information Collection
Users input data for medical and domestic travel declarations, either for themselves or with consent on behalf of others. The collected personal information includes:
- Full name
- Phone number
- Citizen identification number
- Gender
- Year of birth
- Permanent address
- Nationality
- Health status
- Departure and destination locations
- Vehicle number plate
- Exposure to individuals with COVID-19
All information is collected with user consent through form submissions.
Users are responsible for the accuracy and legality of the information they provide.
Privacy and Copyright Protection
The National Population Data Center, under the Ministry of Public Security, securely stores and protects user data. This information is used solely for COVID-19 prevention and control, aiding public health efforts without commercial exploitation or privacy infringement. Data may be shared with health authorities and other relevant agencies to enhance disease prevention measures.
The application developer does not use user information for any purposes beyond those stated. It will not disclose any information that could harm users or violate their privacy rights under Vietnamese law or the application's policy.
Additional Notes
- No Location Collection: VNeID does not track or collect users' location data.
- Anonymity: Users interact anonymously within the community. Only authorized entities can identify those infected or at risk due to close contact with COVID-19 cases for tracing purposes.
