Palworld PS5 Release Excludes Japan, Nintendo Lawsuit Likely the ReasonFollowing its Xbox and PC release, Palworld finally arrived on PlayStation consoles, as announced during PlayStation's September 2024 State of Play. However, a significant exception exists: the PS5 launch has been delayed indefinitely in Japan.

Palworld's PS5 State of Play Reveal

The PS5 version of Palworld launched globally as announced at the September 2024 PlayStation State of Play. Sony even showcased a trailer featuring a Palworld character sporting Horizon Forbidden West-inspired gear.

Despite the worldwide release, Japanese PlayStation gamers are currently unable to access the game. This delay is strongly linked to ongoing legal action.

Japan Release Date: Uncertain Future

Palworld's Japanese Twitter (X) account addressed the situation, confirming the global PS5 launch in 68 countries and regions, but apologizing to Japanese players for the indefinite postponement. No release date has been set. The statement emphasized their commitment to bringing the game to all PS5 users as soon as possible.

While the official reason for the delay remains unstated, the ongoing legal battle between Nintendo, Pokémon, and Pocketpair (Palworld's developer) over alleged patent infringement is widely considered the cause. Nintendo's recent announcement of a lawsuit in Tokyo District Court, seeking an injunction and damages, casts a significant shadow over Palworld's future in Japan. A granted injunction could force Pocketpair to cease Palworld operations entirely, potentially leading to the game's removal.
