Battle of Sudoku: A Multiplayer Sudoku Showdown!
Love Sudoku? Want to challenge friends or team up for a collaborative puzzle battle? Battle of Sudoku is a multiplayer version of the classic game where you compete against other players or teams. The goal remains the same: fill a 9x9 grid with digits so each row, column, and 3x3 subgrid contains all numbers from 1 to 9.
Before starting, you can adjust the difficulty (1-6, 1 being easiest, 6 hardest) in the game options. This sets the number of pre-filled digits, providing a shared starting point for all players. Every player receives the identical puzzle.
Game Modes:
- Show Opponent's Correct Numbers: This option (configurable in the game options) displays every correctly placed number on all players' screens. Each correct number earns points, but you can't place a number already used by another player. Speed and accuracy are key!
- Hidden Correct Numbers: With this option disabled, players only see their own progress. Multiple players can earn points for the same correct number.
Time Penalties:
Incorrect entries result in a time-out, preventing further actions while others continue playing. The time-out duration is customizable (default 30 seconds).
Scoring:
Correct numbers earn points, with higher difficulty levels awarding more points per correct placement. Incorrect numbers cost you points (half the value of a correct placement).
Winning the Game:
The game ends when the puzzle is completely solved. The player with the highest score wins. If "Show Opponent's Correct Numbers" is disabled, the game ends when one player solves the puzzle, although this doesn't grant extra points; others can still win by making fewer mistakes.
Team vs. Individual Play:
Choose to play individually or join a team (1 or 2). Teams need at least two players. Team points accumulate, and notes/colored fills are shared among teammates, encouraging collaborative strategies.
Solving Tools:
A toolbar beneath the puzzle provides helpful tools:
- Pen Tool: Add notes (mini-numbers) to squares as potential candidates. Clicking a number already present removes it.
- Fill Mode: Change the background color of squares (even solved ones).
